Circle Theatre History

CT-photos-over-the-decades.jpg

When the Circle Theatre first opened its doors to the public in 1923, it was considered the “coolest place in town.”  Early settlers of Sebring flocked to the Theatre to get away from the oppressive heat and mosquitoes, especially during the summer months. Silent movies were shown in the 1920’s, and FDR had fireside chats to the audience in the 1940’s during WWII.

Since that time, the theatre fell upon hard times and was abandoned. Walls that once rung with laughter and music echoed with silence. The Champion for Children Foundation, determined to serve children and families in the local community, saw great potential within those walls. In 2011, the Foundation began working tirelessly on the project to restore it for future generations. After three years of renovations, the Circle Theatre opened to offer various art-related activities and programs for children as well as serving as an elegant venue rental for the community.

In 2017, the Circle Theatre restructured to focus on bringing beneficial prevention programs and enhanced services to local families. Mission-focused programs provide community trainings, support groups, educational events, and family resources. Also be on the lookout for local band performances, youth art shows, and more community events.

COVID-19 shut down the theatre and it went virtually unused until October 9, 2021. New Circle Theatre manager Harry Havery has begun the process of turning the Circle Theatre into a venue for live music again and has 35+ shows scheduled between now and April 2022. Within the historic Circle Theatre, there are two decorative tree murals providing meaningful opportunities to forever show your support of the Champion for Children Foundation and our community. Memorialize and honor your business, family and friends, or highlight a special date, celebration or anniversary with a beautiful engraving on a glass leaf, star or heart.

The Tree of Champions is located within the main lobby of the Circle Theatre. Golden leaves can be sponsored for $250, and large blue stars for $1000.

The Tree of Love can be found in the balcony of the Circle Theatre, with limited sponsorship opportunities available for a donation of $500 per red heart.
